The Sydney 7s
My rugby (union) viewing, since having left South Africa, has been disappointing to say the least. I’ve watched snippets of the Sharks games on YouTube, but that’s where it ends. So when a mate asked us to join him at the Sydney 7s, we jumped at the offer.
After roping in my cousin, we caught the train and headed for the Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park. The event wasn’t as busy as I expected, but this didn’t detract from the electric atmosphere – everyone was impressively dressed up, the beer and frozen cocktails were cold and flowed, and we even got our rock on at a foam party.
Sadly, the BlitzBokke’s performance was less than ideal. Despite having won our initial matches, we lost to Australia, and got knocked out of the Cup playoffs, all whilst sitting amongst Australians. It was painful to say the least!
I’ll definitely be back next year, and am already considering buying a ticket to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong 7s. What a day!
